‘Porn-demic’ Afflicting Church Leaders Recently

How many more men who claim to be leaders within the Christian faith must falter before something will be done about it?

Paul told the men in the Corinthian church to, “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be bold like men, and be strong,” (1 Cor. 16:13).

God told Micah the good that He expects men to perform in service to Him, “…and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Mic. 6:8).

As three is the number of completeness within the Bible, a third verse written to Timothy from Paul on how Christian men are to act is appropriate: “But you, O man of God, escape these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness,” (1 Tim. 6:11).

So why then are so many pastors, ministers and church leaders being seduced by sexual spirits and delving into the world of pornography?

This is no longer a fringe occurrence within America, but a pattern that abuses children and stains the name of God.

Recently, Steve Robert Wukmer, 66, was arrested on 215 counts of child pornography. Wukmer had previously worked in Ohio as a children’s minister and at Agape Boarding School in southwest Missouri.

Some of his former students identified him and spoke out about how he acted while at the boarding school: “This guy was a full-time staff member at Agape when I was first there,” said Colton Schrag, who attended the school twice from 2004 to 2010. “He was pretty friendly to boys at Agape. He was over the 14 and younger boys in school. He always treated us better than most staff, but seeing the charges, it makes sense now.”

Wukmer is currently being held on $6.45 million bond at the Alabama Dekalb County jail.

“I am disgusted that someone could be doing this sort of thing here in Rainsville, but unfortunately, I’m also not surprised. We in law enforcement are seeing more and more of this terrible act, even locally,” Rainsville Police Chief Michael Edmondson said in a statement. “I am so proud of our police department for jumping on this investigation and getting it done quickly to protect the kids in our community.”

How and why are men in positions of leadership within the Christian community choosing to partake in such a disgusting activity? While they and they alone are responsible for their actions, these actions are clearly being spiritually influenced by demonic forces.

The devil did not make them do it, but he did convince their flesh to engage in such a perverse endeavor.

Men rooted in the Word of God and are filled with the power of the Holy Spirit know that the Bible says to resist the devil, because he is coming for them. Yet the multitude of men succumbing to these despicable acts raises question as to how firmly rooted in the Word they actually are.

Christianity cannot suffer a watered-down message of the gospel. It does not work; it does not have the power of the Holy Spirit behind it. For the power of God to take hold of hearts in revival again, there must be a spreading of the pure, unaltered gospel because that is the Word of God, not what man says is acceptable for society. It is all or nothing, because the Bible states what Jesus will do with lukewarm Christians.
