America: One Nation Under God

Have you opened a newspaper lately or read an online paper? The massive number of publications spewing lies and hate toward Christians are only increasing by the day. The media is riddled with lies about how America was not founded on Christian beliefs.

1 John 2:11 tell us “But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness: he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.”

Take this recent NPR.org article on “white evangelical Christians are now talking about the U.S. as a Christian nation in ways that verge on or outright embrace Christian nationalism—the idea that the U.S. is a Christian nation and its laws should be rooted in the Bible”. Well yeah, no duh, one can simply look to the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution to find the prime examples that our country was founded on Christian principles.

The same NRP article quotes Lauren Boebert from a speech given in Colorado after Roe vs. Wade was overturned where she said “The church is supposed to direct the government”. The author of the article goes into the false narrative that this is “not how our founding fathers intended it”. I guess she hasn’t read Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptist Association yet or she has and it doesn’t fit her narrative so she negates its facts.

This article also goes into how an influential minority of Americans see the U.S. as a Christian nation as evidenced by recent Supreme Court rulings including school prayer and Roe vs. Wade.

                DID YOU KNOW: that God appears in all 50 states’ constitutions at least once with Massachusetts leading the charge with 12 mentions and North Carolina with 10? 34 of our state constitutions refer to God more than once.

Both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were inspirational in founding our wonderful country and both were religious men in themselves. Jefferson once wrote a letter to the Danbury Baptist Association discussing the separation of Church and state and its true meaning in the Constitution. In the letter, Jefferson paints the true picture of this phrase that actually showcases that it means, the government must stay out of the Church, NOT the Church staying out of government as so many want you to believe today. Sadly, this phrase has been massively misrepresented and I believe it’s been on purpose.

Benjamin Franklin who didn’t belong to a church during the time of the Constitutional Convention, stated on June 28th “At the beginning of this contest with Great Britain, when we were sensible of danger, we had daily prayer in this room for divine protection”. Then on July 4th, all 52 men attended a local Christian church where they prayed together and came together to finally produce the Constitution. 52 of the 55 men at the Constitutional Convention were religious and some of them were even presidents and founders of Bible societies. To say that the US was not founded on biblical principles is just ignorant and a slap in the face to our founding fathers.

The most famous line of the Declaration of Independence states “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” This is clear proof that our Founding Fathers recognized our Lord, during the founding of the United States of America and that our rights as Americans have come from our Creator. The Declaration clearly explains and justifies the American Revolution to secure our God-given rights from the British monarchy.

There are more prime references to God in the Declaration including:

  • “Laws of nature and nature’s God” which entitle people to separate but equal laws
  • “Supreme Judge of the world” refers to our mighty God who judges all
  • “Firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence” which refers to our God who provides our independence

Now some skeptics will say “well the Constitution doesn’t reference God”, but they are wrong yet again. If you take a moment and refer to the ratification clause of the Constitution, you will see that God does appear and that our Constitution is dated as “In the year of the Lord Christ”.

To say that America wasn’t founded on Christian principles is not only ignorant but it’s unconstitutional and detrimental to the future of this great republic.
