As Americans leave the Thanksgiving holiday in the rearview mirror, they have shifted gears into the Christmas season.

With Giving Tuesday already here, there is a wealth of biblical reasons to give this holiday season. For Christians, it is not so much the amount but the heart in which they give.

There are many examples of selfless giving such as the widow in Luke 21 who gave her last two mites. So too can believers around the world set an example of what Christ-like giving is all about.

Here are five Bible verses to encourage and bring joy to you this Giving Tuesday!

Second Corinthians 9:6-7: “But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Let every man give according to the purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Proverbs 22:9: “He who has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the poor.”

Luke 6:38: “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over will men give unto you. For with the measure you use, it will be measured unto you.”

Acts 20:35: “In all things I have shown you how, working like this, you must help the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, how He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'”

Proverbs 19:17: “He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay what he has given.”

These verses and so many more in God’s Word implore Christians to give, and give willingly and joyfully.

God does cares more for the heart of the giver than the amount they are giving. Even during uncertain economic times, when believers obey the commands of the Lord in the Bible about money and finances, they will reap the blessing the Lord promises in return!
