Leaders Across America Fall Victim to Violence – Intercessors for America

As lawlessness abounds in America, our leaders are suffering. When will it end?

From The Western Journal. A Republican member of a New Jersey borough council was shot and killed Wednesday night near her residence.

Council member Eunice Dwumfour of Sayreville, New Jersey, was found shot multiple times in her vehicle just outside of the apartment complex where she lived, according to WABC-TV.

Police said that the vehicle crashed after Dwumfour was shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Eunice was a dedicated member of our borough council who was truly committed to serve our residents,” Mayor Victoria Kilpatrick said in a statement, according to NJ.com. “The fact she was taken from us by this despicable criminal act makes this incident all the more horrifying.” …

Police said she was the target of an attack, WABC reported. …

From The Western Journal. Russell Heller, a 51-year-old GOP borough councilman in Milford, was shot to death in the parking lot of a building owned by the public utility provider PSE&G where he worked, NJ.com reported.

Police said the victim was targeted by a disgruntled former employee, according to the report.

The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Gary Curtis, later took his own life while sitting in his vehicle in nearby Bridgewater, New Jersey, police said.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release Wednesday the attack occurred just after 7 a.m. ET that day and Heller was dead when first responders arrived at the scene. …

On Thursday, authorities said Heller’s killing was “not politically connected,” NJ.com reported. …

“The Milford Borough Council is deeply saddened by the loss and our hearts go out to his family,” Mayor Henri Schepens said in the statement, according to NJ.com. …

From Daily Caller. Democratic Minnesota Rep. Angie Craig was assaulted in her apartment building’s elevator Thursday morning, her office announced.

“This morning around 7:15 a.m., Rep. Craig was assaulted in the elevator of her apartment building in Washington, DC. Rep. Craig defended herself from the attacker and suffered bruising, but is otherwise physically okay,” her office said in a statement. …

Craig is not the first member of Congress recently victimized by violent crime. Democratic Pennsylvania Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon was carjacked in South Philadelphia in December 2021. Police later recovered the cars and arrested suspects. A car belonging to Democratic Missouri Rep. Cori Bush was hit by gunfire in January 2022, although the congresswoman was not in the vehicle at the time. …
