Asbury Awakening Services to End Monday – American Faith

Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, has announced the end of its 24/7 prayer meetings that started with a regular chapel service on Feb 8, The Washington Times reports.

The meetings attracted global attention and drew large crowds seeking spiritual revival.

The small town of Wilmore was inundated with streams of cars searching for parking spaces as visitors sought a touch from God.

As a result of the excessive parking demand and other overcrowding conditions, officials have cited the need for a schedule change.

The school will host its last meeting at the Hughes Chapel at 2 p.m. on Monday, and from then on will hold specific gatherings at regular times for students and the public to pray.

The limited schedule of prayer meetings will wind down on Thursday, the National Collegiate Day of Prayer.

The school has also announced that between Monday and Thursday, they will stream “limited portions” of their on-campus services via www.Asbury.EDU/outpouring, partly to reduce overcrowding in Wilmore.

Asbury’s President, Kevin J. Brown, said, “As we enter the third week of this renewal movement, our desire is to be faithful to our mission as a student-centric Christian University.”

“We believe that the continued flourishing of such a movement invites us to commission our Asbury community, visiting students, and other campus guests from across the world to neighbor-serving, God-honoring work,” Brown went on to say.

He added that the school had experienced a historic moment with the revival meetings that had drawn thousands of visitors, some of whom had purchased one-way tickets to the rural town.
