Majors plays Damien, Adonis’ longtime friend and new, bitter rival. Having each other’s backs as orphans led to them forming brotherly ties. But after Damien takes the fall for his younger friend, they eventually lose touch. Years later, Damien shows up as a grown man full of regrets. Adonis, who has traded his boxing trunks for a business suit, finds himself forced back into the ring. He not only has to prove that he’s the better boxer, but he also has to make peace with the ramifications of his childhood decisions.
“Creed III,” which follows its predecessors’ same barebones formula, is a damn good movie. It certainly stumbles in a few places, but “Creed III” is entertaining and engaging, and features jaw-dropping action. It also features memorable performances, particularly from Jonathan Majors, whose desperation to recapture the past is palpable. Jordan excels as a first-time director, framing shots that draw you in. The major fight scenes are also stunning.
Jordan has said that “Creed III” is about affirming the legitimacy of one’s right to exist and enjoy the “blessings” achieved through hard work. Yet, “Creed 3” is also about what keeps families together and can tear friends apart. It is also a movie about facing personal demons and making peace with the past.
Overall, “Creed III” is a powerful and inspiring film that will likely stay with viewers long after the credits roll.
