Many questions arose recently after the recent derailment of a train carrying toxic chemicals in East Palestine, Ohio. Whether preventable toxic spills have been happening frequently or not (and they have been happening about every two days; see this article in The Guardian for more details), such a sudden rash of spills raises eyebrows. They become especially suspicious when they seem to happen in extremely strategic spots.

Friend, I don’t know if there is a grand, evil plan of darkness behind toxic spills or not. I do know that our God is a God Who heals toxic spills. Let’s examine His word today to find encouragement and a prayer strategy.

In Exodus, we read about how the Lord cleaned up a “toxic spill” for the Israelites:

So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they went out into the Wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water.

Now when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah. And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”

So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet.

There He made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He tested them, and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you” (Exodus 15:22–26 NKJV).

The spring in the Wilderness of Shur was called Marah, which literally means “bitter.” This spring was poisonous, and it had been so for long enough that people named it after its toxicity.

But God.

When Moses cried out to the Lord for help, God told Him to cast a tree into the waters. As Moses did so, the toxicity was suddenly removed from the waters. The water became sweet and drinkable. After the Israelites drank from it, God “made a statute and an ordinance for them” and pointed out that He is the Lord who heals, and that He would not allow the diseases of the evil to rest upon them.

Wow! That sure sounds like something we need in our nation today, don’t you think?

Although our “spring” isn’t named “Marah,” it is named the Ohio River. Other spills have happened recently along other strategic waterways. If toxic spills are permitted to pollute these rivers, it would damage the water supply for countless millions of Americans.

But we have access to a tree that will make the waters sweet.

The tree we have is the cross of Jesus Christ. This tree was covered in the blood of our precious Savior so long ago, and that blood continues to flow. God’s healing power is still available to us by the blood of Jesus. And God will still put none of the diseases upon us that He brought upon the Egyptians.

Would you join me in praying today for God to apply the blood of Jesus to our nation, and to heal every toxic spill?

Let’s pray as follows:

Dear Heavenly Father, we come to You in Jesus’ name.

Abba Father, we praise You for the blood of Your Son, Jesus. Thank You for sending Your Son to die for us, like a Lamb without blemish and without spot. We thank You for the blood of Jesus, which goes on cleansing us. And we thank You that the blood of Your Son Jesus cleanses everything else it touches, too.

Lord God of heaven, we humbly lift up our nation and our literal land, air, and water to You today.

You see the pollutants that have been released into the environment recently by various toxic spills. You, and You alone, know how badly those things impacted our water supplies, the air we breathe, our health, and even our food sources.

Also, only You know whether there was a diabolical plan in place that caused these things to occur. But even if there was, Lord, You are stronger than any of these things.

Abba Father, Your word says that the thief does not come except to steal, kill, and destroy. But JESUS came that we may have life, and have it more abundantly. Therefore, Father, in the name of Jesus:

• we rebuke the thief who came to steal, kill, and destroy using these toxic spills as his weapon;
• we bind every after-effect of these spills;
• we bind the poisons and toxins in the air, water, and land, and in every person affected;
• we cast these toxicities out, in the name of Jesus.

And Father, because You said that we should both bind AND loose, we LOOSE Your healing into the land, water, air, and people of our nation.

We loose the blood of Jesus over our nation, and over every single element, thing, and person impacted by these toxic spills. We throw the tree of healing — the very cross of Christ — into the bitter springs, and we say, “Be healed, waters, land, air, and people, in Jesus’ name!”

Father, we humbly and boldly ask:

• that You would make every single one of these toxic spills useless and of no effect;
• that You would bring to nothing the ungodly, demonic “wisdom” of foolish men, and that You would render their plans utterly useless;
• that there would be NO sickness in any person in East Palestine or any other place because of these spills;
• that if anyone is already sick, You would heal them in Jesus’ name;
• and because Your word says You will, we ask You to work these things out for the good of all who have been affected by them.

Additionally, if there was a human or demonic diabolical plan in place regarding these toxic spills, we ask that You would expose and judge it. Bring it to nothing, Abba Father, and teach the enemy a lesson so that he will not be able to do that again.

Thank You, Abba Father, for hearing and answering our prayers. Thank You for giving us the authority, as Your church, to bind evil and loose good. We loose healing into our land in the name of Christ, and by His blood.

Thank You for paying the price for our healing, authority, safety, and blessing. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen and amen.

Beloved, always remember that greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world.

The thief may come to steal, kill, and destroy, but JESUS came that we may have LIFE, and have it more abundantly. Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus, walking in the authority of His name today, shall we?
