The Brew: Sorrow and Squirming – The Stream

Happy Tuesday!

Today’s Brew starts with sorrow.

Three Children, Three Staffers Killed in Christian School Shooting … by a Transgender Former Student

Yesterday, a 28-year-old woman named Audrey Elizabeth Hale walked into a Christian private school in Nashville filled with little kids and opened fire, killing three children and three staffers before Nashville police were able to cut the murderer down. Hale is a former student at Covenant School.

Nashville Police Chief John Drake Hale identified Hale as female. She had recently begun identifying as transgender and preferring male pronouns, a source told The Daily Beast.

Will be interesting to see the rewrites of the earlier reports that discussed how rare it was for females to be mass killers. And fascinating to watch how the transgender cult enthusiasts spin this. Will it be, “Being a transgender had absolutely nothing to do with Hale pointing a gun at Christian children and firing. To suggest otherwise is transphobic!” Or will it be, “Hale was driven to it by the rhetoric and bullying by Christians and Conservatives. Hale’s a victim here!” (We’ll see that when the killer’s manifesto turns up.)

Will they discuss any underlying mental health issues? After all, didn’t the Washington Post just publish an article touting how satisfied transgender adults are with their lives?

Or will the story just be buried, as is any mass killing that strays from the narrative?

Biden Calls for More Weapons Bans … After Talking About Ice Cream

The bodies had barely hit the floor before politics jumped into the crime scene.

Karine Jean-Pierre’s boss also addressed the shooting. Networks cut in to hear his remarks about this horrible shooting. Instead, we first were treated to a soliloquy about mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Nothing against mint chocolate chip ice cream… but really?

Biden would eventually get around to the shooting at Covenant School, talking, of course, about banning assault weapons. As if that legislation gets you anywhere. As we wrote after Parkland in “Why Are You Surprised?”

If confirmed that the shooter was transgender, don’t expect the story to hang around long in mainstream media. Unless it’s to somehow to blame Christianity for murdering Christian children and staffers in cold blood.

Greta Thunberg Getting Honorary Doctorate … in Theology

Stream writers and contributors have often made the case that the “climate change” crowd has become a cult, or a religion. It was not hyperbole. The University of Helsinki is giving 20-year-old climate hysteria princess Greta Thunberg an Honorary Doctorate of Theology.

The school is even comparing her to Old Testament prophets. Theology professor Martti Nissinen tells the Daily Caller:

Thunberg was chosen as the voice of the young generation’s concern for the future of the Earth and as a world-renowned influencer in spite of her young age. Such a concern has everything to do with academic theology which is no less interested in the Earth as it is in Heaven — ever since the biblical prophets, some of whom may be the first ones to anticipate a global climate crisis (cf., e.g., Hos 4:1–3)!

Meanwhile, John Kerry is promising more sacrificing at the climate change altar by the Biden Administration. Meaning, he told Yahoo! News there will be more executive orders and Congress-bypassing mandates including “changes on automobile, on light truck, heavy truck” along with “a number of initiatives.”

UFC Legend Holly Holm Calls Out the Sexualization of Children in Post-Fight Speech

You know you’re in a Bananas Republic when people who beat people up for a living make more sense than your elected leaders.

Case in point: On Saturday night, UFC legend Holly Holm beat Yana Santo. Then in her post-fight interview, she gave the left’s sexualization of children a firm kick in the jaw.

“Something’s been on my heart and I feel like I have the platform to say it, I need to say it. I just feel it’s really sad all the sexualization of our children right now and we need to protect them whatever that may be. Let’s protect the children, please!”

This came two days after AOC called the Parents Bill of Rights bill “fascism.” The bill ensures parental involvement in their children’s education. This includes parents being able to stop schools from stocking child porn in school libraries, teaching graphic sex lessons to kids, shoving radical gender ideology in their faces, and all the other efforts to sexualize children. Yes, groom them.

NPR Issues a Correction … Sort Of

Yesterday the Brew mentioned that NPR knocked how the international governing body for track and field is banning trans athletes from elite women’s competitions “despite limited scientific research involving elite trans athletes.”

On Monday, NPR tweeted a correction of sorts.

Here’s a crazy idea, NPR. Why not look at the results of women’s competitions that include biological men?

Agatha Christie the Latest to Get Re-Written by Woke Publishers

Mystery queen Agatha Christie has sold more books around the world than anyone else in history. There have been, by one count, over 7,236 translations of her books into 100 different languages.

Yet now, her publisher Harper-Collins has decided to mess with the murder master, changing words and removing passages that they think are un-kosher to 2023’s sensitive ears. According to the Daily Telegraph, new digital editions of her books are being cleansed of “descriptions, insults or references to ethnicity, particularly for characters Christie’s protagonists encounter outside the UK.”

For example, in Death of the Nile, the word “Nubian people” has been removed. And, ridiculously, the word “native” has been replaced with “local.”

The defacing of Christie’s books comes after similar editing of Ian Fleming and Roald Dahl.

This is not the first time Christie’s books have seen a change. Her classic And Then There Were None was originally published in England in 1939 with a different title, Ten Little (N-Word). The plot centered around a children’s rhyme and minstrel song of that name. You can see why the American edition was published in 1940 with the new title. Pocket Books paper backs, used the title Ten Little Indians on editions published between 1964 and 1986. England, for some reason, kept with the original offensive title until 1985.

Whatever the title, that book creeped me out in junior high.

Is It Real Or Is It the Babylon Bee?

Let’s play a little game. I am going to give you a headline, and you have to guess whether it’s a legitimate headline or an invention of the Babylon Bee.

Here we go: “Trans woman left sobbing in JFK airport after TSA agent hit her testicles.”

Across The Stream

The latest “Conversations With Christians Engaged” podcast is up! The final part of Bunni’s series “Everything Local” features an interview with Terri Hasdorff, President of Capitol Solutions Consulting. The topic? “Impacting Through Courage.”

Speaking of courage, Nancy Flory interviewed John Bevere about his new book The Awe of God, how fear brings unhealthy wisdom, but the fear of God brings awe and wisdom.

After some initial confusion about Hale’s identity, his article has been corrected to reflect reality: Hale’s name, Audrey Elizabeth Hale, and her God-given identity, a woman.
