Texas Gunman Who Killed 5 Neighbors Is Arrested after 4-Day Manhunt

A man suspected of killing five of his neighbors in Cleveland, Texas, was finally captured on Tuesday following a four-day manhunt.

As Christian Headlines previously reported, 38-year-old Francisco Oropesa shot and killed 5 of his neighbors with an AR-15 at their home late Friday night. Police and the FBI then spent days looking for him to no avail firsthand.

On Tuesday, police arrested Oropesa after finding him in a laundry closet in Conroe, Texas.

During a Wednesday morning press conference, Lt. Timothy Kean, second in command at the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office, announced that additional arrests have been made. While he did not give a specific number, Kean said the amount is “fluid right now,” but not more than five.

“There have been several arrests, but I can’t go into the details on that,” Kean said.

“I’m not going to say his name. You guys know his name. He’s in this jail right here,” Kean said regarding Oropesa. “I don’t think he deserves the glory for what he’s done.”

“He’s in this jail probably having a hot breakfast when we’re out here talking about it,” Kean added.

Kean also chose not to confirm whether Oropesa’s wife is among those who were taken into custody.

Oropesa, a Mexican national, is currently in the San Jacinto County Jail. He is also an undocumented immigrant and has been deported five times.

Citing a spokesperson for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Associated Press reports that Oropesa’s wife, Divimara Lamar Nava, has been arrested for her connection to Friday night’s shooting. He is being held in Montgomery County.

During the press conference, Kean said that a judge will officially set Oropesa’s bond, which is expected to be $5 million.

“The people arrested are not telling us very much,” he continued. “Anybody that helped this maniac is definitely got some kind of issues as far as I’m concerned.”
