Tragic Death of Honduran Migrant Teenager in U.S. Custody Underscores Biden Admin’s Responsibility – American Faith

The tragic death of a migrant teenager while in U.S. government custody under the Biden administration has been confirmed by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The deceased, a 17-year-old Honduran named Ángel Eduardo Maradiaga Espinoza, was identified by a Honduran official, sparking demands for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, according to Fox News.

While the HHS acknowledged the death, the department has yet to disclose the location where the minor passed away.

According to Eduardo Reina, the foreign minister of Honduras, Espinoza was situated in a shelter located in Safety Harbor, Florida.

Reina has since called for an “exhaustive investigation” into the unfortunate incident.

Expressing sorrow over the loss, the HHS stated, “The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is deeply saddened by this tragic loss and our heart goes out to the family, with whom we are in touch.”

The department also revealed that the standard procedures that follow the death of an unaccompanied child or serious health outcome are currently in progress.

“As is standard practice for any situation involving the death of an unaccompanied child or a serious health outcome, HHS’ Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) Division of Health for Unaccompanied Children (DHUC) is reviewing all clinical details of this case, including all inpatient health care records. A medical examiner investigation is underway,” the HHS statement added.

HHS is currently refraining from releasing further information about the young migrant’s death.
