Christian Singer Megan Danielle Advances to Top 3 on American Idol

Christian singer and Georgia native Megan Danielle advanced to the top three on “American Idol” on Sunday night.

“WOW! Thank y’all. I’m so honored and grateful!” Danielle wrote on Instagram. “Let’s keep sharing the light and love of Jesus.”

According to The Christian Post, American Idol held its Disney Night episode on Sunday. The remaining five contestants performed songs from Disney films. On Sunday, Danielle secured her spot in the top 3 after singing “You Can’t Stop the Girl” from the movie Maleficient: Mistress of Evil.

Danielle, 20, joins fellow singers Colin Stough and Iam Tongi in the season finale of season 21 of American Idol this Sunday (May 21). According to the Internet Movie Database, the episode will include “special performances from music legends and today’s top artists” as “the top three contestants take the stage for the final time as America decides who will become the next American Idol.”

During her audition episode, Danielle shared that she switched from singing in bars to Christian music at the request of her late grandfather. In the same episode, Christian singer and American Idol alum Lauren Daigle, whom Danielle cites as an inspiration, surprised the young singer as she sang Daigle’s “You Say.”

In subsequent episodes, Danielle performed songs focused on faith, including Daigle’s “Thank God I Do” and Vince Gill’s “Go Rest High on That Mountain.”

Following her “Go Rest High on That Mountain” performance, American Idol judge Luke Bryan, who selected the song, commended Danielle for being outspoken about her faith.

“What I love about you is … you’re never scared to tell everybody your faith,” Bryan told her. “When I thought about that song, I … just felt in my heart that I couldn’t pick a better one than that for you.”

In addition to being on American Idol, Danielle has been working on original music and is set to release her single “Dream Girl,” on Friday.

“I’m still trying to wrap my head around making it into the finale but remember how I said something cool is coming soon???? My new single ‘Dream Girl’ drops this Friday, and I just can’t stop smiling!” she said. “Pre-save/pre-add link is in my bio! Thank you, Jesus, for these incredible opportunities! My heart is full!”
