House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman, James Comer (R-Ky.), made an official appeal to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) today, demanding the release of documents related to then-Vice President Joe Biden’s roles that coincided with his son’s activities in Ukraine.

Chairman Comer stated, “Joe Biden has claimed there was ‘an absolute wall’ between his family’s foreign business schemes and his duties as Vice President, but evidence reveals that access was wide open for his family’s influence peddling.”

The chairman continued, “We already have evidence of then-Vice President Biden speaking, dining, and having coffee with his son’s foreign business associates.”

Joe Biden, while a 2019 presidential candidate, firmly declared that during his vice-presidential role, there was “an absolute wall between the personal and private, and the government.”

He further emphasized, “that is why I have never talked with my son or my brother, or anyone else in the distant family about their business interests, period.”

Contrasting Biden’s statements, witness testimonies now reveal that then-President Biden communicated extensively with his son’s foreign business colleagues.

Evidence suggests that “then-President Biden spoke on speakerphone with his son’s foreign business associates over 20 times, dined with foreign oligarchs in Washington, D.C., and met with his son’s Chinese business associate for coffee in Beijing.”

In the spotlight is an email, titled “Friday Schedule Card,” which indicated a call between Vice President Biden and Ukrainian president, Petro Poroshenko, in May 2016.

This email raised eyebrows due to its use of the pseudonym “Robert L. Peters,” which the Committee identified as a moniker for then-Vice President Biden.

Further, questions arose as to why solely Hunter Biden was copied on this official communication.

Chairman Comer’s letter to NARA explicitly requests “unrestricted special access under the PRA to Case Number 2023-0022-F” and additional specific documents, urging a provision “no later than August 31, 2023.”

The committee’s intent, as detailed in the letter, is to amend current ethical and legal frameworks, especially regarding “ethics laws and disclosure of financial interests related to immediate family members of Vice Presidents and Presidents.”

James Comer concluded his letter, stating, “The Committee on Oversight and Accountability has specific jurisdiction over NARA under House Rule X. Additionally, the Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the U.S. House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate ‘any matter’ at ‘any time’ under House Rule X.”
