A cosmetics company is reportedly cancelling a branding deal with rock legend Alice Cooper after he called transgenderism “confusing to a kid” and said he’s “afraid that it’s also a fad.”

Fox News reports that Vampyre Comestics severed ties with the 75-year-old singer over this interview with Stereogum, during which he was asked to weigh in on past remarks made about transgender issues by fellow rock stars. Online backlash against Vampyre’s decision ultimately became so intense that the company appears to have deleted its account on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“I’m understanding that there are cases of transgender, but I’m afraid that it’s also a fad, and I’m afraid there’s a lot of people claiming to be this just because they want to be that. I find it wrong when you’ve got a six-year-old kid who has no idea,” Alice Cooper told Sterogum. He just wants to play, and you’re confusing him telling him, ‘Yeah, you’re a boy, but you could be a girl if you want to be.’

“I think that’s so confusing to a kid. It’s even confusing to a teenager,” the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame singer continued. “You’re still trying to find your identity, and yet here’s this thing going on, saying, ‘Yeah, but you can be anything you want. You can be a cat if you want to be.’ I mean, if you identify as a tree… And I’m going, ‘Come on! What are we in, a Kurt Vonnegut novel?’ It’s so absurd, that it’s gone now to the point of absurdity.”

You can decide whether there’s something wrong or even controversial about those statements or anything Alice Cooper said in the rest of the Stereogum interview. As of this writing, Cooper hasn’t apologized and we hope he will stand by his comments.

Alice Cooper, who just finished touring with the rock supergroup The Hollywood Vampires, which includes Johnny Depp and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, just released a new album called “Road.” He is currently on tour with Rob Zombie, Filter and Ministry, all of whom played to a large audience on Sunday night in West Palm Beach, Florida. Their next concert is Tuesday evening in Raleigh, North Carolina.
