The Hunting of Candidate Trump: How Far Will They Go? – The Stream

We’ve seen four indictments of former president Donald Trump … with the possibility of more on the way … and that has not slowed Trump’s momentum in the polls. Even CNN admits Biden is on the ropes. The mug shot meant to humiliate became a money maker, a symbol of defiance … a cultural phenomenon. You’ve got black rappers like Bandman Kevo getting the mug shot tattooed on their leg.

But now a new front has opened up in the war to keep Trump away from the White House.

“Insurrection,” the 14th Amendment and the Danger to Democracy

Lawfare efforts are being launched around the country to try and keep former President Trump’s name off the 2024 ballot, via the 14th Amendment. Two of the latest are Connecticut and Colorado. Virginia Senator and Hillary running mate Tim Kaine is also pushing the scheme, calling it a “powerful argument.”

The 14th Amendment was crafted after the Civil War to prohibit those who had been in armed rebellion against the United States from holding office. You know, Confederates. The specific wording in Section 3 is: “no person shall … hold any office… who, having previously taken an oath… shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against” the U.S. or given “aid and comfort to the enemies thereof.”

Foes claim Trump led an “insurrection” on January 6 and gave aid and comfort to those who stormed the Capitol. The 14th Amendment explains why Democrats, NeverTrumpers and the media have continually used that word “insurrection” in regard to Trump since January 6. (Hillary supporters can set Washington ablaze and threaten to blow up the White House upon Trump’s inauguration, and nobody used the word “insurrection.”)

Obviously, it is absurd on its face to accuse the same guy who wanted 10,000 National Guard troops protecting the Capitol of wanting to take over the Capitol. But facts and common sense, let alone the law and our democratic tradition, have no place in this effort.

Constitutional scholar (and liberal) Jonathan Turley calls the attempt to keep Trump off the ballot “the single most dangerous legal theory” he’s heard in decades.

Legal legend (and big-time liberal) Alan Dershowitz agreed this is dangerous, telling Fox News:

It’s so undemocratic. It’s so anti-American. And it’s so dangerous and it’s absolutely a disgrace that so many people call themselves scholars are prepared to misinterpret the Constitution to bring about a result they want, which is denying the American people the right to vote for Donald Trump or people like me, the right to vote against him.

Thing is, the forces that can’t stomach a straight-up election are making no bones about it. A free-and-fair, if freewheeling, election is out of the question. On Sunday, former DNC chairwoman and Clinton-ite, Donna Brazile declared the “old political rules” won’t work against Trump and his “movement.”

Will this tactic of keeping Trump off the ballot in 2024 via the 14th Amendment work? Likely not. So far, courts have tossed similar suits out quicker than rotted fruit.

What’s next then? How far will they go to prevent Trump from being elected and serving?

A Harrowing … Yet Necessary … Thought

Before answering that question, I want to play a clip of Donna Brazille’s old boss, Hillary Clinton. Here she is reacting to the Obama-Biden-Clinton-engineered overthrow of Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi. Gaddafi was dragged through the streets, sodomized, savagely beaten, and shot to death. And Hillary laughed.

“We came. We saw. He died,” Hillary cackles. (Click the “Watch on YouTube” link)

Many of the same people who orchestrated Gaddafi’s gruesome finale are top officials in the Biden White House. And that includes Joe Biden, who while bathed in blood red light, flanked by Marines, declared Trump a threat to our very democracy.

Can anyone seriously doubt this crowd loathes and considers Trump a greater danger than they did Gaddafi? An existential danger?

This includes some of the Intelligence Community leaders who signed the bogus letter claiming Hunter’s laptop was Russian disinformation,  meant to throw the 2020 election. These people manipulate or force the removal of leaders they don’t like for a living. Can anyone seriously think they wouldn’t go farther in their efforts to stop Trump in 2024 than they did in 2020? They won’t go to the mats? Especially, when you consider Trump is vowing payback if he returns to the Oval Office? Why wouldn’t they?

Donald Trump’s a threat to their rule, their order, perhaps their personal freedom. The old rules don’t apply.

Knowing what these people have proven themselves capable of, knowing how their dramatic efforts thus far have not slowed Trump down, knowing how desperate they are becoming, knowing how Trump won’t give up, we must not kid ourselves about the danger that lies ahead.

Last week, Tucker Carlson voiced what has been a burden to me for months. “Graph it out, man,” he told Adam Carolla, “We’re speeding toward assassination … obviously.”

Radio host – and crucially, former Secret Service Agent – Dan Bongino seconded Carlson’s assessment, saying, “Trump’s life is in danger.

God help this nation if any hair on that head is harmed.

A Time of Intercession

There will be fights in the courts. Fights at the ballot box. Fights in the public square. But this is one where we must fight in our prayer closet. Democrat and Republican. Any who care about America. Pray for the safety of the former President – love him or hate him. Pray for the supernatural exposure of any plots to do him harm.

Pray that not only Trump supporters, but Alan Dershowitz and others who prefer another candidate in the primaries and general get the chance to express their choice.

Pray that democracy, pray that “We the People” will have the last laugh.
