Alberta Conservatives to debate school pronoun policies during upcoming convention – LifeSite

CALGARY, Alberta (LifeSiteNews) — Alberta Conservatives are considering mandating parental consent for children to “change” their pronouns at school.

Set to take place November 3 to 4, the United Conservative Party (UCP) annual meeting will debate introducing legislation requiring parental consent for children under 16 to go by a different gender and pronouns at school.

“As was noted by Saskatchewan Education Minister Duncan, schools require a signed permission slip to take children on a field trip so it’s unclear why schools should not require parental consent for identification changes,” the policy proposal pointed out. “Schools should not be in the business of going behind parents’ backs.”

If the policy is adopted, it would require teachers, schools, and school boards to “obtain the written consent of the parent/guardian of a student under the age of 16 prior to changing the name and/or pronouns used by the student.”

Proposed policies also include legislation opposed to the World Economic Forum’s 15-minute cities and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s energy regulations set to compromise Alberta’s power grid.

Last week, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith told reporters that her government is not bound to follow the UCP’s decision should the motion be passed.

“I support the grassroots process,” said Smith referring to the parental consent policy. “The policy process is one of the measures that our cabinet and caucus use in making a decision, but we also confer with stakeholders, and we also talk to Albertans.”

“I want to see how the debate goes, and then we’ll make some decisions once we see whether or not [the resolution] passes,” she continued.

The policy further referenced the decisions of Saskatchewan and New Brunswick, whose conservative-led governments implemented parental consent policies to the ire of LGBT activists.

In September, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe announced that he will invoke his government’s notwithstanding clause to protect legislation stating that parents must be told if their child changes “genders” at school; a judge had ruled against the enforcement of the law earlier that day.

The notwithstanding clause, embedded in section 33 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, allows provinces to temporarily override sections of theCharter and protect new laws from being scrapped by the courts.

Saskatchewan is following the example of New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs. Higgs was condemned earlier this year by LGBT activists for reviewing the province’s “gender identity” policy, as it allowed schools to hide students’ “transgender” status from parents.

“For [a desire to be identified with the opposite sex] purposefully to be hidden from the parents, that’s a problem,” Higgs told reporters at the time.

Under the new policy, teachers need parental consent to use different names or pronouns for students younger than 16.

In early August, pro-LGBT politicians tried unsuccessfully to remove Higgs from office. Their failure led Progressive Conservative Party members to say that, despite the media backlash, Higgs has the support of the “silent majority.”

Increasingly, Conservative leaders who have shown little to no concern over LGBT propaganda pushed on children have been forced to take notice as Canadians are increasingly standing up to LGBT activists.

According to an August survey, 86 percent of Saskatchewan-based participants are for parental rights and support the province’s new laws. Other polls and surveys have found that the majority of Canadians in every province support legislation similar to that being implemented in Saskatchewan and New Brunswick.

Last week, British Columbia Conservative Party leader John Rustad declared that parental involvement in schools is important to his party and cited the growing pro-family resistance across the country.

The most notable pro-family event took place in September, which saw Canadians across the country gather in cities to partake in the Million Person March against LGBT indoctrination in schools.
