Intrepid is not a word used in everyday language. It means “brave,” “courageous,” “bold,” and “resolute.”

That describes the kind of intercession God invites us to in Hebrews 4:16, where we are told to draw near to the throne of grace with boldness to receive help in time of need.

Pray for your fellow intercessor.

God has ordained to work mightily through the prayers of His people. His intercessors — those who have received a calling to intercession and spiritual warfare — are at the forefront of His kingdom work. Their prayers forge the way for the advance of the gospel and the accomplishment of His purposes on earth. However, this is a ministry that can be draining, is often misunderstood, and certainly comes under constant attack from the forces of darkness, who hate and fear the power of prayer. That is why “intrepid” is a good adjective for intercession!

That is also why I wrote a devotional titled Intrepid Intercession: Daily Encouragement for Prayer Warriors, with the help of 14 contributors. The majority of them are also regular contributors to IFA’s weekly publications, and IFA President and CEO Dave Kubal was kind enough to write the foreword.

This 366-day devotional provides daily insight, guidance, and encouragement grouped around 12 monthly themes derived from The Lord’s Prayer, the definitive pattern our Lord Jesus laid out for the believer’s prayer life. The topics are aimed primarily at intercessors, but they provide helpful insight also for anyone who wishes to deepen their communion with God.

I pray that this book will help strengthen the ministry of intercessors and also add to their numbers, as people read and “catch the bug” for what prayer can do in our increasingly complex world. A number of folks have already told me that intercessory prayer is lacking in their spiritual lives and that they hope this devotional will help them. That gives me hope that something is stirring in the hearts of believers and that more people will take up the mantle of priesthood and discover the power of intrepid intercession.
