Women’s Midweek Reflections: Give Thanks Like a Child – Christian News Journal

Our church’s “Offering of Praise” time is eagerly anticipated, especially by children. Often one or two raise their hands before the call for praise is made. They blurt out short answers with no explanation. They can make adults laugh gently and parents throw up their hands in mock surrender. Siblings’ birthdays, family visiting, and new puppies are announced with gusto. Almost every week one wise boy thanks God for church. That’s all—church.

Adults, on the other hand, seem to wait for big things to give thanks. It’s certainly right to thank God for healing, jobs, and reconciled relationships. These children’s response reminds me that if I am always waiting for the big things before I thank God, I may miss Him in everyday moments.

Our church’s children have learned early and well God loves to hear their thanks.Even more, they are being obedient to God’s Word. Paul told the Ephesian church, “…giving thanks always for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ…” (Ephesians 5:20).

I want to be like them, obedient in giving thanks for all things.

Challenge: Make a list of ordinary things for which you are thanking God.
