Women’s Midweek Reflection: Thanksgiving Guards the Heart – Christian News Journal

Many of us find ourselves in one of these post-Thanksgiving categories.

Consider the “Let’s Move On” group. The moment Thanksgiving dishes are done, we race to put up the Christmas tree and lights. The over-achievers among us might have already completed the work and simply flip a switch to transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

Then there are the “Holiday Shopping Preppers.” As they wait for Thanksgiving dinner, they spread out all the Christmas ads and catalogs, planning a route for their Black Friday shopping spree.

Yet, some carry heavy burdens. Their minds are troubled by serious concerns that render them helpless. Poor health, strained finances, and contentious relationships make complaining more desirable than thanksgiving. Grief replaces anticipation of the upcoming holiday. The mind is restless and confused. Does that describe you? Jesus has compassion and love for you.

Paul wrote, “Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).

Challenge: Give God the heavy burdens you are carrying with thanksgiving and receive peace to guard your heart and mind.
