Thousands of pro-Palestine activists gathered outside the White House, shaking the security fence in a call for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Demonstrators also flung bloody dolls over the fence to depict the situation in Gaza.
Secret Service agents appeared on the scene to prevent a breach, as the security fence was shifted backward.
Non-essential White House staff were reportedly told to leave the building.
After the protesters left, the ground was littered with bottles and other items the demonstrators threw at Secret Service.
