U.K. Medical Society Aims to ‘Eradicate’ Transphobia – American Faith

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy in the U.K. announced that it is seeking to eliminate transphobia from its profession.

In one statement released on April 10, the society said, “The CSP opposes transphobia. We are committed to eradicating it from our profession.”

“We recognise that the discrimination and disadvantage that transgender people face can be context specific and intersectional,” the statement continued.

“Transphobia” includes “attempting to remove trans people’s rights,” “misrepresenting trans people,” “abuse, “systematically excluding trans people from discussions about issues that directly affect them,” and “other forms of discrimination,” according to the statement.

In another statement from April 11, CSP Council Chair Ishmael Beckford said, “Publishing this statement is a significant milestone in our profession’s journey in recognising and challenging transphobia and its negative impacts. This collaborative piece of work is a first step which will be supported by the delivery of the actions that the CSP has committed to.”

White the CSP called for acceptance of transgenderism, a recent report from Dr. Hilary Cass, Chair of the Independent Review of gender identity services for children and young people, found, “There are few other areas of healthcare where professionals are so afraid to openly discuss their views, where people are vilified on social media, and where name-calling echoes the worst bullying behaviour. This must stop.”

Discussing “gender care” for minors and young adults, Cass wrote there is “remarkably weak evidence” for transitions.

“This is an area of remarkably weak evidence, and yet results of studies are exaggerated or misrepresented by people on all sides of the debate to support their viewpoint,” Cass explained. “The reality is that we have no good evidence on the long-term outcomes of interventions to manage gender-related distress.”
