A group of anti-Trump media figures have held weekly meetings for two years on how to “intellectually stress-test the arguments facing Trump on his journey through the American legal system,” according to a report from Politico.
The individuals involved in the meetings are familiar with efforts to take down Donald Trump.
These figures include:
- Norman Eisen, the host of the weekly Zoom meetings and a former senior Obama administration official
- Bill Kristol, a Trump critic
- Laurence Tribe, a left-wing constitutional law professor
- John Dean, the White House Counsel for former President Richard Nixon
- George Conway, founder of the anti-Trump PAC Lincoln Project
- Andrew Weissmann, a prosecutor involved in the Mueller-Russia collusion case
- Jeffrey Toobin, a CNN commentator
According to Trump attorney Jeffrey Clark, “A group of leftist legal commentators has been meeting weekly for about two years to strategize about how to bring down Trump using the media.”
Clark noted that he “even coined a term for the phenomenon: ‘JournoLawfare™️’”

The meetings began in 2022 as the January 6 Committee investigated the January 6, 2021 U.S. Capitol event. Committee staffers “took some time out of their seemingly 24-hour jobs one day in 2022 to brief a group of lawyers and legal pundits on a Zoom call,” Politico noted.
The outlet learned that “some members of the group were understandably anxious about its publication” because Trump has claimed that “there is a legal conspiracy against him, and there is a risk that news of a group such as this could give Trump and his allies an attractive target.”
Some meeting members “brushed aside the notion that it’s intended to devise talking points or strategy to take down Trump,” although they are “united by their dislike” of the 45th U.S. President.
