The Democratic National Committee is seeking to nominate President Joe Biden virtually.
The move comes as the Ohio state legislature has not reached a decision on a bill that would allow him to appear on the ballot.
According to The Hill, the effort is to “ensure Biden gets on the ballot in all 50 states.”
“Joe Biden will be on the ballot in Ohio and all 50 states, and Ohio Republicans agree. But when the time has come for action, they have failed to act every time, so Democrats will land this plane on our own,” DNC Chair Jaime Harrison said, adding, “Through a virtual roll call, we will ensure that Republicans can’t chip away at our democracy through incompetence or partisan tricks and that Ohioans can exercise their right to vote for the presidential candidate of their choice.”
Ohio requires political parties to certify their nominee 90 days prior to the general election, August 7 this year.
The DNC will take place August 19-22.
Last week, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose said that Biden will not be on the ballot unless the DNC changes its dates.
“Unless your party plans to comply with the statutory deadline, I am duty-bound to instruct boards of elections to begin preparing ballots that do not include the Democratic Party nominees for president and vice president of the United States,” LaRose wrote in a letter to Ohio Democratic Party Chairwoman Liz Walters.
