President Joe Biden told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he was sorry about the delay in funding to Ukraine as Congress battled foreign aid policies.
“I apologize for those weeks of not knowing what’s going to happen in terms of funding,” Biden said, going on to Congress’ $61 billion aid package for Ukraine.
“We’re still in. Completely. Thoroughly,” he added.
Zelensky urged “all American people” to support Ukraine.
“It’s very important that in this unity, United States of America, all American people stay with Ukraine like it was during World War II,” Zelensky said. “How the United States helped to save human lives, to save Europe. And we count on your continuing support in standing with us shoulder to shoulder.”
Biden’s stance with Ukraine comes as NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg recently said that NATO will support Ukraine for “as long as necessary.”
“I have proposed that Allies commit to a multi-year financial pledge for Ukraine. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, Allies have provided approximately 40 billion euros worth of military support to Ukraine each year,” he added. “We must maintain at least this level of support each year, for as long as necessary.”
