Rep. Chip Roy Plans Meeting to Discuss Using 25th Amendment Against Biden – American Faith

GOP Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) is planning a meeting with House Republicans to discuss the possibility of invoking the 25th Amendment against President Joe Biden.

Section 4 of the 25th Amendment describes a series of steps for removing a president.

Roy told Fox News that he believes Republicans need to have a position on where they stand regarding Biden’s ability to fulfill his role.

Because an effort involving the 25th Amendment deals with the executive branch, the bill would not be “privileged.”

“The founders made very dang clear that they didn’t want a president by committee. That’s what you have right now – that’s unconstitutional,” Roy said.

The move comes as Roy filed a resolution on June 28th that called upon Vice President Kamala Harris “to convene and mobilize the principal officers of the executive departments of the Cabinet to activate section 4 of the 25th Amendment to declare President Joseph R. Biden incapable of executing the duties of his office and to immediately exercise powers as Acting President.”

In a press release for the resolution, Roy said, “I put forth a resolution calling upon the Vice President to immediately use her powers under section 4 of the 25th Amendment to convene and mobilize the principal officers of the Cabinet to declare the President of the United States is unable to successfully discharge the duties and powers of his office.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) recently discussed invoking the 25th Amendment against Biden.

“There’s a lot of people asking about invoking the 25th Amendment right now, because this is an alarming situation,” Johnson said. “Our adversaries see the weakness in this White House, as we all do.”

“I would ask the cabinet members to search their hearts,” he added. “I would be panicking too if I were a Democrat today and that was my nominee. I think they know they have a serious problem.” He noted that “it’s not just political, it’s not just the Democratic Party — it’s the entire country.”

“We have a serious problem here because we have a president who by all appearances is not up to the task.”
