DNC Approves Party Platform – American Faith

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) approved its 2024 party platform on July 16 through a virtual vote.

The final vote was 139–2.

In a party platform summary released on July 13, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison said, “This Platform highlights the progress that we’ve made since day one of the Biden-Harris Administration and recommits Democrats up and down the ballot to our mission to give every American a fair shot.”

Harrison added that the platform incorporates a “diverse set of expertise and perspectives” and is “rooted in our collective experience and reflects a bold agenda that affirms Democrats’ commitment to protecting fundamental freedoms.”

According to the platform summary, Biden aims to “secure our border” and “fix the broken immigration system,” although the southern border has been a disaster under his administration. According to a January release from the House Oversight Committee, the Biden admin “sparked the worst border crisis in American history and placed Americans’ lives at risk by abandoning deterrent-focused immigration policies and proven border enforcement tools.”

“Legislation must secure the border; reform the asylum system; expand legal immigration; and keep families together by supporting long-term undocumented individuals, including Dreamers,” the platform draft’s highlights state.

The platform also calls for gun control measures such as “universal background checks, safe storage requirements, and a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.”

Democrats also want to “advance equity,” according to the draft highlights.

“President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats are committed to restoring the reproductive rights Trump ripped away and will pass a law codifying the protections of Roe, strengthen access to contraception, protect a woman’s right to access IVF, and support access to FDA-approved medication abortion,” it adds.

The RNC’s party platform, however, embraces Donald Trump’s campaign, highlighting goals such as tax cuts, ending the weaponization of the justice system, strengthening the military, cutting funding for schools pushing critical race theory (CRT) and radical gender ideology, protecting women’s sports, and securing elections.
