During a live-streamed address to the U.S. Congress, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy drew parallels between Ukraine’s struggle and historical U.S. tragedies such as Pearl Harbor and 9/11. He pressed for increased support, including military aid and sanctions on Russian lawmakers. He emotionally implored, “We need you right now,” alternating between Ukrainian and English. The White House is also considering providing Ukraine with Switchblade drones.

Zelenskyy, viewed as a central figure in Europe’s greatest security threat since WWII, expressed gratitude for American support and urged Biden to take the lead in promoting peace worldwide. He also emphasized Ukraine’s pursuit of democracy and freedom. Congress recently authorized $13.6 billion in aid for Ukraine, with the additional security assistance included in this package
