3 values that have helped American businesses make a positive impact on our culture – LifeSite

(LifeSiteNews) — From our corporate research over many years we have identified three important values that we believe help businesses impact America; integrity, caring ,and courage. These values are not complicated, but they come with challenges. As Ronald Reagan said, “There are no easy answers, but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right.”

Striving to have an impactful business driven by core values often leads to profitability, but there are no guarantees. Good guys don’t always win, like the Lone Ranger, but we like their chances. Thankfully, numerous businesses in America are driven by core values, are successful, and, most importantly, are having a positive impact on our culture.

Integrity

The first value that is helping businesses impact America is integrity

“The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them” (Proverbs 11:3).

I recently asked a successful business owner how he would describe his business to a new customer. He simply said, “I do what I say I will do.” This same owner said there were times when he had to suffer financially in order to complete a job, but felt it was his obligation to do so. How many times have we been on the wrong side of a business not completing a task we were counting on? On the other hand, how refreshing it is when a business completes the job for us in excellent fashion.

Caring

The second value that is helping businesses impact America is caring.

“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Mark 12:31

One company that goes the extra mile to demonstrate caring employs over 50 full-time chaplains to minister to the spiritual needs of their employees. But caring does not stop with employees. I have always admired the purpose statement of Chick-fil-A which greatly extends their scope of caring, “To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.”

Courage

The third value that is helping impact America is courage.

“In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33b, NASB).

One company has the courage to display its support for unborn children with a bold pro-life message on the back of its vehicles. Many companies have the courage and faith to close on Sunday trusting they can remain profitable without an extra day of sales. There are a range of moral issues some companies are now choosing to stand up for which is earning support from many concerned customers. Other issues for which companies are standing include traditional marriage, freedom of speech, and religious freedom.

Being guided by values like integrity, caring and courage give businesses the opportunity to make a positive impact on our culture. Companies like this are here, right now, in America, and deserve our support.

In conclusion, does America have the biggest economy primarily because of intelligence, ingenuity, and skills? Of course, those attributes contribute significantly. But I submit that America’s leading economy has gotten an even larger contribution from the adherence to time-honored values like integrity, caring and courage.
