Newport Beach, Calif. Mayor Welcomes Progressive VP Candidate Tim Walz to City that ‘Embraces Conservative Economic Values’ – American Faith

In response to the announcement of Democratic Governor Tim Walz’s upcoming visit to Newport Beach, the city’s Republican Mayor issued a critique, underscoring the vast differences between the liberal policies promoted by Walz and the conservative principles that guide Newport Beach.

Governor Walz, known for his progressive agenda, is set to attend a fundraising reception in Newport Beach on August 13, 2024.

The event is being hosted by prominent local donors, including Anne Earhart, Janet Keller, Bernie Schneider, and others. The gathering, full of influential liberals in a city known for its commitment to conservative values, has sparked significant criticism.

The Mayor’s response emphasized the success of Newport Beach’s conservative governance, which has prioritized fiscal responsibility, public safety, and a strong commitment to individual freedoms.

In contrast, the Mayor pointed out that Minnesota under Walz’s leadership has been marked by policies that expand government control, increase taxes, and impose burdensome regulations, which have stifled economic growth and personal liberties.

“As the Mayor of Newport Beach, a City with a 7-0 Republican City Council, I welcome Governor Walz to spend time with our City leadership while he’s dipping into some of our residents’ pockets,” O’Neill said.

“We will showcase a city that didn’t defund the police, that embraces conservative economic values, that decreases debt and increases quality of life, that did not allow protestors to burn out local businesses, and that cares about human flourishing,” he continued.

“If Governor Walz is as interested in learning policy from a well-run city as he is in political donations, my door will be open.”
