New Mexico spends $400 thousand to recruit out-of-state abortionists – LifeSite

(LifeSiteNews) — New Mexico is recruiting abortionists from other states with the help of $400,000 gleaned from taxpayers.

The endeavor is part of the state’s goal to become a haven for the killing of innocent unborn babies.

Democrat Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and the state health department took out full-page abortionist want ads in newspapers in neighboring Texas. Abortion in the Lone Star state is illegal except when there is “a serious risk of substantial impairment of a major bodily function of the pregnant female,” according to state law. However, direct abortion is never truly necessary to protect the life and physical health of a woman.

“It must be distressing that a draconian abortion ban has restricted your right to practice and turned it into a political weapon,” the ad, signed by Grisham, stated.

“I certainly respect those of you who remain committed to caring for [sic] patients in Texas, but I also invite those of you who can no longer tolerate these restrictions to consider practicing next door in New Mexico,” the ad stated, according to CNN. “We’re fiercely committed to protecting medical freedoms here and we’re taking steps to ensure that what happened in Texas never happens in New Mexico.”

“Whether you are a nurse, a resident, a physician assistant, or a doctor, we cordially and enthusiastically invite you to the Land of Enchantment, where you are free to care for [sic] your patients,” the letter stated.

The state has also placed “billboards around the Houston Medical Center,” according to CNN.

The left-leaning news outlet correctly noted that there are no restrictions on the killing of unborn babies in New Mexico: “Abortion is legal without restrictions on pregnancy length in New Mexico, and the state has a shield law that protects its abortion providers caring for [sic] out-of-state residents.”

New Mexico has sought other ways to increase the availability of abortions in the state under Grisham’s leadership.

In September 2022, the governor set aside $10 million to build an abortion facility near the Texas border.

“The executive order also directs the Department of Health to develop a detailed plan to leverage resources to expand abortion access in rural and underserved parts of the state, work to make abortion medications available in state public health clinics, and to reduce wait times and increase access statewide,” Live Action previously reported.

As noted by CNN, the state has also promised not to assist pro-life states in prosecuting criminal abortionists who break their laws.

The pro-abortion governor signed an executive order barring state agencies from assisting in theprosecution of abortionists in other states as long as the abortionist did not break any New Mexico laws, LifeSiteNews reported in June 2022. The executive order came soon after the Supreme Court ruled there is no constitutional “right” to abortion in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case.

The state will also not extradite abortionists for committing illegal abortions or any other crime that is not illegal in New Mexico, LifeSiteNews previously reported.

“As long as I am governor, abortion will continue to be legal, safe, and accessible in New Mexico,” Grisham promised at the time.

Meanwhile, a scandal-plagued abortion facility opened in Albuquerque last year with the explicit goal of killing at least 75 babies per week.

“The starting goal is to serve 75 patients a week,” Axios reported last year. “Whole Woman’s Health of New Mexico will provide first- and second-trimester in-clinic abortion procedures up to 18 weeks of gestational age and has plans to expand care up to 24 weeks in the near future.”

Whole Woman’s had left Texas. While committing abortions there, it was cited for a variety of health violations, according to reports obtained by pro-life leader Abby Johnson.

“The reports show that from 2011 to 2017, the Whole Woman’s Health abortion conglomerate has violated health codes by using rusty equipment, examining aborted babies in the same room where contaminated instruments were being washed, and failing to properly disinfect and sterilize instruments used from woman to woman,” LifeSiteNews previously reported.
