A chaotic brawl broke out in Turkey’s parliament during a heated debate over the continued imprisonment of a prominent Kurdish leader.
A member of Erdoğan’s party approached Ahmet Sik and attacked him after Sik made the “terrorist” claim.
“We’re not surprised that you call Can Atalay a terrorist, just as you do everyone who does not side with you,” Sik said. “But the biggest terrorists are the ones sitting in these seats.”
The incident escalated after a lawmaker criticized the government’s handling of the situation, leading to physical altercations among members.
“It is a shameful situation,” Ozgur Ozel, who heads the Republican People’s Party, said. “Instead of words flying in the air, fists are flying. There is blood on the ground. They are hitting women.”
The situation remains volatile as both sides stand firm on their positions.
