Mormon Church Faces Criticism After Releasing Policies for Transgender Members – American Faith

Liberal activists have criticized the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints following the release of its updated 2024 “General Handbook,” which outlines policies for gay and transgender members.

The guidelines affirm the church’s stance that gender is defined by biological sex at birth and discourage members from undergoing gender transition procedures.

The policy restricts those who pursue transitions from holding certain church positions and participating in co-ed youth activities.

Additionally, it regulates restroom use based on birth sex, with some exceptions.

The handbook also adds that people who identify as transgender “should be treated with sensitivity, kindness, compassion, and Christlike love. All are children of God and have divine worth.”
