(LifeSiteNews) — Former First Lady Melania Trump believes her husband’s survival of two would-be assassination attempts in recent months are due to divine intervention.

While sitting down for an exclusive interview with “Fox & Friends” this week, Melania said that Thomas Matthew Crooks’ and Ryan Routh’s failed plans to gun down her husband were “miracles.”

“If you really think about it, July 13 was a miracle. Like that much and he could not be with us … I think something was watching over him. I think, it’s almost like the country really needs him,” she said.

July 13 was the date that Trump held his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The monumental breakdown in security that lead to Crooks taking multiple shots at Trump while he was on stage has still not been fully clarified, prompting speculation that the effort was an “inside job” carried out by intelligence agencies to replace Trump as the GOP nominee with a more pro-war candidate

Melania, who’s memoir Melania has become a best-seller, placed blame for the attempts on her husband’s life on the mainstream media and Democratic politicians who have repeatedly called him a “threat to democracy.”

“Is it really shocking that all this egregious violence goes against my husband, especially that we hear the leaders from the opposition party and mainstream media branding him as a threat to democracy, calling him vile names? They’re only fueling a toxic atmosphere and giving power to all of these people that want to do harm to him. This needs to stop,” she said.

“It’s interesting how quiet everything became all over the mainstream media,” she added. “There were a few days they were reporting about July 13 event, and everything then became quiet. So I had a lot of questions … this is not normal.”

Following Trump’s first assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, scores of political commentators and religious figures attributed his survival to God’s protection.

“We are deeply grateful to Our Lord who saved this brave warrior, who did not lack the strength to stand up and invite his supporters to fight,” former Apostolic Nuncio to the U.S. Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano said at the time.

Trump himself acknowledged that his survival was miraculous during his GOP nominee acceptance speech just five days later when he said at the Republican National Convention, “I’m not supposed to be here tonight … I stand before you in this arena only by the grace of Almighty God.”

Melania said that she was not watching the Pennsylvania rally live when the shooting happened but that she immediately turned on the television when she first learned of what had happened.

She also tried to call her husband and the Secret Service to no avail but was then told he was safe and could speak to him, after which her youngest son Barron, who was outside, rushed indoors. She then had a “very difficult” conversation with him.

This year’s presidential election is scheduled for Tuesday. November 5, which is less than 40 days away. Most polls show Trump is outperforming where he was when he faced off against Joe Biden in 2020. The only vice presidential debate is set for next Tuesday, October 1 at 9pm EST and will be hosted by CBS “Evening News” anchor Norah O’Donnell, who previously worked for MSNBC, and “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan.
