Stocks for Moderna, BioNTech, and Novavax fell following Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s appointment to head the Health and Human Secretary.
According to data collected by Axios, Moderna fell 5.6%, BioNTech fell 7.1%, and Novavax fell 7.2%.
Kennedy has stated that he will not remove vaccines from the market.
“If vaccines are working for somebody, I’m not going to take them away. People ought to have choice, and that choice ought to be informed by the best information,” he told NBC News. “So I’m going to make sure scientific safety studies and efficacy are out there, and people can make individual assessments about whether that product is going to be good for them.”
Upon his appointment to the role by President-elect Donald Trump, Kennedy wrote on X, “We have a generational opportunity to bring together the greatest minds in science, medicine, industry, and government to put an end to the chronic disease epidemic.”
He added that he will “clean up corruption, stop the revolving door between industry and government, and return our health agencies to their rich tradition of gold-standard, evidence-based science. I will provide Americans with transparency and access to all the data so they can make informed choices for themselves and their families.”
