On Tuesday, President-elect Donald Trump announced his selection of Dr. Mehmet Oz, a well-known celebrity physician, as the new administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Oz, referred to as “Dr. Oz,” had previously attempted to secure a Senate seat in 2022 but was not successful. Trump, who supported Oz during that campaign, indicated that Oz would collaborate closely with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has been appointed to head the Department of Health and Human Services.
Trump mentioned that the two would confront “the illness industrial complex, and all the horrible chronic diseases left in its wake,” as well as address what he described as waste and fraud within the system. “Our broken Healthcare System harms everyday Americans, and crushes our Country’s budget,” Trump remarked in a statement, emphasizing that Oz would play a pivotal role in “incentivizing disease prevention.”
