House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) declared that people may only use restrooms in the House of Representatives that correspond to their biological sex.
“All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings — such as restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms — are reserved for individuals of that biological sex,” Johnson said. “It is important to note that each Member office has its own private restroom, and unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol.”
“Women deserve women’s only spaces.”
Johnson said on Tuesday that “a man is a man, and a woman is a woman. And a man cannot become a woman.”
“That said, I also believe that’s what Scripture teaches, what I just said. But I also believe that we treat everybody with dignity, and so, we can do and believe all those things at the same time, and I wanted to make that clear for everybody because there’s lot of questions,” he stated. “But that’s where I stand, I’ve stood there my whole life, and those are facts.”
The statement comes as Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) introduced a resolution to restrict access to single-sex facilities in the U.S. Capitol based on biological sex.
