Mel Gibson has revealed that his Malibu home was destroyed in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires while he was in Austin, Texas, recording an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience. The Oscar-winning actor expressed his frustration with California’s leadership, particularly Governor Gavin Newsom, over the state’s handling of wildfire prevention.

“My property is completely gone—just ashes,” Gibson said during an interview on Elizabeth Vargas Reports. He criticized Newsom, claiming, “He said he’d take care of the forests, but nothing has been done. I think our tax dollars have been wasted—probably on Gavin’s hair gel.”

The wildfires, the worst in Los Angeles history, have consumed 31,000 acres, destroyed 10,000 structures, and forced the evacuation of 180,000 residents. Tragically, at least 10 people have lost their lives. Authorities warn that high winds could exacerbate the crisis, with several fires still burning in areas like Palisades and Eaton.

Gibson, who lived at his Malibu home for 15 years, shared that his family followed evacuation orders and are safe. However, he described the loss as “devastating and emotional,” adding, “I’ve been relieved of the burden of my stuff because it’s all in cinders.” The star also noted that his neighbor, actor Ed Harris, lost his home in the fires.

While many celebrities have publicly shared their losses, Gibson used the moment to call for accountability, pointing to mismanagement and insufficient action on forest maintenance as key factors in the disaster.
