Trump AI Executive Order Eliminates Bias – American Faith

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday aimed at fostering the development of AI systems that are free from ideological bias and engineered social agendas. The order seeks to maintain the United States’ leadership in artificial intelligence technology while addressing concerns over perceived leftist leanings in popular AI tools.

The executive order revokes policies established during President Joe Biden’s administration, which Trump’s team claims hindered AI innovation. Specifically, the Biden-era executive order from 2023 imposed regulations that Trump officials argue were burdensome for private companies and stifled technological advancement. Trump’s directive also tasks a White House-led team with creating an AI action plan within 180 days, with a focus on promoting human flourishing, economic competitiveness, and national security.

David Sacks, a former PayPal executive and current venture capitalist, has been named Special Advisor for AI and Crypto. He will play a key role in guiding the administration’s AI policy and ensuring that it aligns with Trump’s vision of promoting innovation free from political agendas. The executive order also emphasizes the importance of ensuring that AI technology does not reflect or perpetuate ideological bias.

The new policy comes in response to studies revealing bias in current AI systems. A study published in PLOS ONE tested 24 popular large language models (LLMs) using political questionnaires and found a left-leaning bias across the board. These results highlight growing concerns among conservatives about the role of AI in shaping public opinion and policy debates.

Trump’s focus on removing bias from AI aligns with warnings from tech leaders like Elon Musk, who has been critical of “woke AI.” Musk and others have called for AI systems that operate neutrally and serve all users without promoting specific ideologies.

The executive order also seeks to reverse some of the Biden administration’s initiatives aimed at curbing the government’s use of AI tools that allegedly caused discriminatory outcomes. These measures, championed by then-Vice President Kamala Harris, aimed to address potential biases related to race, gender, or disability in AI deployment.

The administration’s move highlights a broader effort to ensure that U.S. technology maintains its global leadership while reflecting values of fairness, innovation, and transparency.
