Sheryl Crow’s latest stunt—selling her Tesla in protest of “President Musk” and donating the proceeds to NPR—demonstrates the left’s obsession with performative outrage.
Instead of making a meaningful statement, she chose to grandstand by rejecting a car from the very company that has led the push for green energy, a cause progressives supposedly support.
“My parents always said… you are who you hang out with,” Crow, 63, wrote along with the viral clip.
“There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla.”
Elon Musk has been vocal about defunding NPR, a taxpayer-supported media outlet that repeatedly pushes a left-leaning agenda. His Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is focused on cutting wasteful government spending, and NPR’s reliance on federal dollars is an obvious place to start.
“Money donated to @npr, which is under threat by President Musk, in hopes that the truth will continue to find its way to those willing to know the truth,” she continued, adding in a slew of hashtags, including #PresidentMusk, #PresidentTrump, and #ProtectTheConstitution.
The irony here is glaring. Crow’s protest against Musk ultimately undermines the climate activism that she and her peers claim to care about. But in today’s entertainment industry, political conformity matters more than principle.
This is yet another example of a celebrity desperately clinging to relevance through virtue signaling rather than genuine action.
Elon Musk spent more than $250 million to support President-elect Donald Trump, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) reported by The New York Times. The report explained that Musk wrote three checks for $25 million each to give to America PAC. Musk also spent $40.5 million on voters who signed America PAC’s petition.
In total, Musk gave America PAC $239 million in cash and contributions. Another $20 million was given to a super PAC named after Ruther Bader Ginsburg, a pro-Trump PAC that said Trump would not sign a national abortion ban.
After election day, Musk gave $4 million to America PAC, and has since promised to keep the PAC active to bolster Trump’s agenda and target far-left prosecutors.
