Once an obscure businessman who lived and slept in his office, Elon Musk has now become a household name. As the leader of President Trump’s DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), he is making waves in Washington by identifying mass amounts of waste and fraud. But who is this person behind the headlines, and how can we pray for him?

First, who is Elon Musk?

Elon Musk is a naturalized American citizen of South African origin. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997, continuing on into entrepreneurship here in the States shortly after that.

As a significant shareholder of multiple companies, including Tesla, SpaceX, the social media network X (formerly Twitter), Neuralink, and The Boring Company (among others), Mr. Musk is the richest human being on the planet, with Forbes estimating his net worth at nearly $350 billion.

What is Musk’s background?

Mr. Musk was born and raised in South Africa, but emigrated to Canada in 1989, and to the USA as a student after that. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, he went on to found a software company and then an online payment services company.

Musk’s payment services company eventually merged with another company to form the PayPal we know today. (PayPal was sold to eBay in 2002 for $1.5 billion.) After PayPal was sold, Musk went on to found SpaceX and get involved in Tesla at the ground level.

Mr. Musk has famously noted that it is not making more money which drives him, but rather that he is motivated by the improvement of humanity. He earnestly desires to improve the lot of humankind, and so his businesses focus on those endeavors which he deems will provide some advantage to both current and future generations.

What are Mr. Musk’s political views?

In years past, his political views were far more liberal than they are now. Although he is generally known to have conservative views now, he supported Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, and Joe Biden in prior elections.

However, in 2022, his views changed and he began supporting conservative candidates. In 2024, he became an avid supporter of President Trump, endorsing him for president after the assassination attempt against President Trump of July 2024.

At this time, Mr. Musk is known to have adopted conservative political views, focusing primarily on the need for eliminating government fraud and waste and operating the government efficiently.

What is DOGE, and why is Mr. Musk operating it?

In January 2025, President Trump created the Department of Government Efficiency and officially named Mr. Musk to head it up. As a savvy, proven businessman whose wealth has been created by genius-level use of technology, engineering, and data, Mr. Musk is uniquely qualified to harness technology to make the government more efficient, and to save taxpayers money.

As a senior advisor to the president, Musk has been tasked with putting together a team of computer programmers and analysts and overseeing their work as they use technology to audit the records of various federal agencies. Their role is to identify fiscal waste and fraud.

When these DOGE analysts find wasteful activity (such as irrelevant government contracts, redundancies, empty office buildings, and more), they bring the information they find to the appropriate members of the executive branch, and of President Trump’s cabinet. The information is then acted upon by those under whose purview it falls.

As a world-class businessman, engineer, and software developer, Mr. Musk functions at a level that most people have probably never experienced. However, despite his prowess in the business sphere, he is facing some challenges right now.

What challenges is he facing in his role?

In his new role assisting the president with DOGE and other consulting roles, Mr. Musk is in a key position to help America solve many problems that have been plaguing the government for years. But, he is in grave danger and is facing many work-related challenges. He needs our prayers.

• First, he has stated on X that he and the whole DOGE team get credible death threats every day. He does have a private security team, but physical security is a challenge.
• The hatred and vitriol of the left are being unleashed on him continually.
• He is navigating the very difficult role of leading multiple companies—with SpaceX and Tesla being huge companies—while serving full-time in Washington DC as the leader of DOGE. This puts stress on not only his mind and body, but also on his companies, their stock price, and more.
• As he leads the DOGE team to audit various federal agencies, Democrats are throwing huge obstacles in his way—including shredding papers, blockading buildings, and more.
• The mainstream media (MSM) is trying hard to cause division between Musk and President Trump. Musk and Trump remain steadfast friends, but dealing with the constant lies of the MSM is stress he doesn’t need.

How can we pray for Elon Musk?

• Please pray for Musk’s physical safety, and for the safety of the entire DOGE auditing team.
• Pray for Musk, his DOGE team, and his security team to have great wisdom and discernment from the Lord in all areas—from safety and security to exposing fraud in the agencies they are auditing.
• Ask the Lord to bring the right people to work with Mr. Musk on the DOGE team, and to deliver him/them from anyone with negative or harmful intentions.
• Ask the Lord to protect Musk and his team in their minds and hearts, as they are constantly exposed to the hatred of the left.
• Pray that the Lord would increase his strength, stamina, and capacity to lead DOGE while still having to handle his business efforts in leading multiple companies. Thousands of jobs depend on the ongoing success of Mr. Musk’s companies, so this is not only a personal matter for him, but also something that greatly impacts the American economy.
• Pray that the Lord would personally eliminate the hindrances, obstacles, and roadblocks that Mr. Musk and the DOGE team are experiencing as they enter various agencies to audit their records.
• Pray that the hidden things would be revealed. Specifically, if any government data has been lost because of fraudulent tampering, pray that Mr. Musk and DOGE would discover ways to find it anyway.
• Pray that Mr. Musk and President Trump will be led by the Holy Spirit in all that they do.
• Plead the blood of Jesus over the relationship between President Trump and Mr. Musk. Ask our Heavenly Father to bring forth everything that is His perfect will for these two men—everything that Jesus shed His blood to accomplish. Pray that God’s total and complete purposes would be perfectly carried out in the friendship between President Trump and Mr. Musk.
• Pray for Jesus to draw Musk to Himself. Mr. Musk has had exposure to Christianity, and he even prayed to receive Jesus with Babylon Bee staff in 2022 during an interview. However, we still need to pray for his spiritual state, and for Jesus to draw him into total surrender to Himself. Pray also for Mr. Musk to yield totally to God’s precious Holy Spirit, and for the Lord to shower him with His goodness.

Mr. Musk is a key player in this nation’s turnaround at this time.

He is facing an enormous uphill battle every day, though, and he definitely needs our prayers. His intelligence and business acumen may be unparalleled, but only the Spirit of God can sustain him during this time.
