7 Benefits of Daily Quiet Time

There are many voices in life vying for our attention. Every day, we see ads on the screens of our devices, read the words of others, and absorb information from people and sources around us. These messages try to convince us to cherish certain values or to place our focus on acquiring goods. But these philosophies and beliefs are not merely trying to draw our eyes or ears. They desire our hearts.

That’s why spending regular time with God is essential, because when we do so, our focus is reoriented on the Lord. Of course, there are many areas of life that demand our attention. However, daily quiet time reminds us that we are meant to seek God’s Kingdom above all else (Matthew 6:33). It invites us into a space where we can close the door on all the noise of the world and instead listen to the One who spoke creation into existence (Genesis 1).

As we take time each day to pray and read the Bible, or just sit in awe of our Savior, our priorities shift back into their proper places. Christ is the One we live for, work for, and long to see return. Lesser issues fall away in light of the magnificence of Jesus.

When we practice a daily quiet time, we find the words of the old hymn to be true: “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, /Look full in His wonderful face, /And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, /In the light of His glory and grace.”
