Howdy Folks:
Billy Graham once wrote an article in the newspaper advising on how to be the ideal father. He said in the following order: First, Love your children and let them know that you love them. Secondly, Spend time with your children, listening to them, playing with them, encouraging and teaching them. Thirdly, be an example to your children by your words and actions. Being a father is a tough job and should not be taken lightly.
There’s a powerful Father’s Day lesson in the story of Noah. Fathers today would do good to pay attention to it. God chose Noah out of all the people of the earth because he knew the condition of Noah’s heart. The Bible says in Genesis 6:8 that “Noah found grace or (favor) in the eyes of the Lord.”There is nothing greater than a father, who has found favor in the eyes of God. What does this mean? It means that Noah believed God’s promise concerning the godly seed, the coming Savior. Noah believed that God was going to preserve a godly people and send the Savior through those people. Therefore, God showered His grace and His favor upon Noah.
The Bible also says in Genesis 7:1 “And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.” The Lord saw Noah as righteous. Meaning a state of acceptance. Noah was righteous because he was just and blameless, in his generation, just meaning that he stood out from others. He was not like the people in the world that he was living in, he was different. The reason I say Noah was different is because Noah had a relationship with God. See God invites Noah and his family to come into the ark, a picture of safety. Dad’s that safest place for you and your family to be is in a personal relationship with God. Do all you can to lead them in that direction.
The Bible also tells us that Noah was just, blameless, and that he walked with God. In short, Noah was faithful. See Noah: Trusted in God’s warning of what was ahead. He was willing to protect his family, and Noah prepared the Ark that god had asked him to build. Dads what we need to see in Noah’s life is that he kept his eyes on God despite the evil and depravity around him. He wasn’t a perfect man, by any means, but he protected his family, remained faithful to his Creator, and carried out what God tasked him to do. Dads let me encourage you to be the Noah to your family.
We too are living in some very wicked and evil times and it is up to us to lead our families to the Lord, by our own examples. Dads whatever you do don’t take it lightly about being a Dad. It is the greatest task you will ever accomplish if you do it God’s way. There will be hard work, sweat, tears, heartbreaks, setbacks, and trials but when it is all said and done the reward is great to be and Dad who loves and follows God.
