Amazon MGM Studios, in partnership with A Wonder Project and Kingdom Story Company, has released the official trailer for the upcoming film, “Sarah’s Oil.” The drama, based on the book Searching for Sarah Rector: The Richest Black Girl in America, is set to hit heaters on November 7.
According to creators:
“Sarah’s Oil” is the remarkable true story of Sarah Rector, an African American girl born in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the early 1900s, who believes there is oil beneath the barren land she’s allotted and whose faith is proven right. As greedy oil sharks close in, Sarah turns to her family, friends, and some Texas wildcatters to maintain control of her oil-rich land, eventually becoming among the nation’s first female African American millionaires—at eleven years old.
The faith-based film stars Zachary Levi, Naya Desir-Johnson, Sonequa Martin-Green, Garret Dillahunt, Mel Rodriguez, Kenric Green, and Bridget Regan.
The Sarah Rector movie is helmed by director Cyrus Nowrasteh (“The Stoning of Soraya M.” and “The Young Messiah”), who wrote the screenplay alongside Betsy Giffen Nowrasteh with inspiration from Tonya Bolden’s award-winning book. Notably, NFL star Russell Wilson and recording artist wife Ciara are among the film’s executive producers.
