God, we lift this legislation before You. We pray for Your will to be done in the Senate, and we pray for an end to wasteful and unhelpful spending, especially concerning health care.

The end of 2025 brought an end to the controversial Obamacare tax subsidies that caused a government shutdown in October. On Thursday, however, the House voted to revive and extend these subsidies.

The legislation, which comes after the Affordable Care Act subsidies expired at the end of last year, now heads to the Senate where it is not expected to pass.

The bill passed in a 230-196 split. It comes after nine centrist House Republicans joined with House Democrats Wednesday evening to advance the legislation to a floor vote.

Now that the House has passed the legislation, the subsidies will advance to the Senate. They are not, however, expected to pass the upper chamber.

In September of last year, Democrats in the Senate allowed the government to shut down in a bid to force an extension for these subsidies, which were set to expire at the end of the year. Though the government eventually reopened, Democrats sought a separate vote on the subsidies as a condition to vote with Republicans.

Though these Obamacare subsidies may not be the answer, it is clear our health care system needs reform. Let’s pray for the Trump administration as it works to resolve all issues, and let’s pray for the Senate as it considers this legislation!
