Signs and Wonders | Jim Huskins – Blue Ridge Christian News

Some prophecy is easy.

I was six when my father took me to see I-40 under construction. Even then I recognized that this road would be marvelous. Two decades later the highway was still under construction. One of the last obstacles was near Black Mountain. A massive bridge had to negotiate a curve and a considerable change in elevation. As it took shape, it bore a striking resemblance to a section of Nascar race track. That structure was eventually named the Richard Petty Bridge. Others apparently noticed the resemblance to a race track. I am not claiming that I even suspected the bridge’s future name. I am saying that some associations are obvious.

Jesus said the same. At the beginning of Matthew 16, religious leaders approached Him and asked for a sign to prove that He is Messiah. He responded, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign.” He also told them that, in spite of their ability to predict weather by observing sky color, they were unable to interpret “the signs of the times.”

His implication is that God’s children should be able to recognize and interpret obvious signs. This is a necessary spiritual discipline. Every modern society seems perched on the brink of disaster. Cultures clash, economies rush toward collapse, wars loom. Our Messiah expects us to recognize these events and respond appropriately.

One example is America’s inevitable financial collapse. That outcome was assured in 1913 with implementation of The Federal Reserve Act. The history of central banking is clear and horrific. JP Morgan and other of America’s most powerful conned Congress into signing over control of currency and interest rates to a private bank. That bank’s goal is to own everything. After our economic collapse, the Federal Reserve will behave exactly as did Joseph in Genesis 47:13–26. That passage is summed up in verse 20, “So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh.”

Most folks assume that the Federal Reserve is owned by the American people. It belongs to Pharaoh, and it serves Pharaoh’s interest. With currency created from nothing, they buy treasuries, securities, and precious metal. After the collapse, they will already own the mortgage that you can no longer afford to pay. They will foreclose. None of this would surprise the many who opposed the Fed. Those folks knew the history of central banking. Joseph was carrying out God’s will. Those who serve Pharaoh’s modern descendants are not.

America’s cultural divide is explained in Deuteronomy 28. This is one of many passages which say that God rewards obedience to His instructions for living, and He curses those who refuse to live on His terms. “If you will not obey the voice of the LORD your God or be careful to do all his commandments and his statutes that I command you today, then all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you.” (Deuteronomy 28:15) Our society has never been wholly devoted to righteous living, but since WWII, our rush toward depravity has accelerated. By 2020, almost everything promoted by popular “influencers” is defined in Scripture as “abomination.”

The only way for us to avoid the judgment that we deserve is to heed 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” This path is also described in Deuteronomy 28: “If you faithfully obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.”

We who claim to be disciples of the Son of God should have no problem seeing where we are headed and knowing what to do about it. Every believer should proclaim by voice and action that God demands obedience to His standards. The Bible labels obedience “righteousness.” Instead of standing for righteousness, most who call themselves “Christian” either ignore God’s commands or insist that they are not “bound” by all those “old testament rules.”

The most unambiguous statement in Scripture is Matthew 5:17–20. Jesus told us to not even consider the possibility that God’s instructions will be revoked. He goes on to say that The Law and The Prophets will be in full force until heaven and earth are taken away at the beginning of Revelation 21. How is it possible for so many “Christians” to contradict Messiah?

To claim that any item in the Law has been abolished is to call Jesus a liar. Lying is a sin, and a sinner could not qualify as a perfect sacrifice. His fulfillment of the Law did not make it go away. He obeyed it perfectly in order to show us how to live in holiness.

Most of those who desire “salvation” without any effort to conform their lives to Godly standards insist that Paul revoked the Law. That position labels Paul a false prophet. If he had done so, the “Noble Bereans” would have been justified in reading Deuteronomy 13 while they stoned him. The widespread practice of blaming Paul insists that he had both the authority and the desire to overrule Jesus. He had neither. By his own admission, Paul always kept the Law. “Paul argued in his defense, ‘Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I committed any offense.’” (Acts 25:8)

Once again I insist that some prophecy is easy. Many who claim to be Christians will cling stubbornly to the ridiculous notions that Jesus started a new religion, that gentile believers are not part of Israel, that they are only required to follow the four commands highlighted in Acts 15, and that Paul abolished what Jesus said will stand forever. My prophecy is that this broad and easy path will lead many to destruction.
