“A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor,” Franklin D. Roosevelt
I have found that journeying through life, like boating, is multi-faceted.
For example, when on the water, one has several different points of sail to choose from to determine a sailboat’s direction relative to the wind.
I believe making decisions is also true regarding our course and speed in life.
Every step we make, whether we tack and jibe (i.e., change course directions), determines how we can maneuver through life’s poignant excursions.
For me, some seasons have seemed relatively easy, but others have proved to be difficult. While some intervals of time seem to drag on, looking back on other snapshots of memory, they appear to have sped by in a flash.
As I look back on the twenty-four years when I was raising my children as a stay-at-home mom, all I see is a dull blur.
On the flip side, have you ever felt like you were stuck in the ditch, spinning your tires and going nowhere?
Making very little progress toward your goals is frustrating, to say the least.
Metaphorically, it is as if you are heading straight into the wind, barely limping along.
In sailing terms, this scenario is called [to be] “in irons” (i.e., the no sail zone – where you are going nowhere fast).
Sometimes in life, we are thrown a curveball: we had planned to zig when we wanted to zag.
Nonetheless, when I find myself on shaky ground, I trust that my personal goals line up with divine will as I ask God to order my steps.
I find comfort knowing the Creator of the Universe is in ultimate control of my journey.
