It is the time of year that we are looking forward to spring, as we see the earth come to life again in newness and beauty after a time of winter, where growth is dormant. Dormant is defined in Webster’s Dictionary as “asleep, inactive; sluggish.”
As we approach the National Day of Prayer this year, let’s think about the word “dormant.” Our nation has experienced a time of dormancy over the last several decades. We have been dormant or asleep, inactive, and sluggish in spiritual things. However, there is a turning of our leaders back to God and back to His Word, as they realize how important it is to have “one nation under God” and “in God we trust” as our mottos. America needs the wisdom of the Lord today and in the days ahead. The 2026 theme is “Glorify God among the nations/Seeking Him in all generations.” The Scripture theme is 1 Chronicles 16:24, “Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among the peoples.”
This year is exciting, as it is the 75th year of the National Day of Prayer, even though a study of our American history reveals that prayer has been a mainstay since its beginnings. “George Washington wrote in his diary, June 1, 1774: ‘Went to church, fasted all day.’” (National Day of Prayer Task Force) Also, 2026 is the 250th birthday of the United States of America.

Riverside Park
12:00 Noon
Please come. Please bring a chair.
Riverside Park is extra special to us, since this observance has been held there every year, until the flooding of Hurricane Helene. Let’s come together and show our support for our town and county, and more than anything, let’s use this opportunity to start a nationwide awakening to God. The president of the National Day of Prayer Task Force said, “This coming May, we don’t just want to gather — we want to ignite…a rededication of our nation to God.”
