Throughout the Word of God, the reader will discover God repeatedly doing those things that are humanly impossible. The worlds were spoken into existence by the mere Word of God, the barren were given children, the Israelites miraculously crossed the water on dry ground, and the Israelites experienced improbable military victories — these are just a few examples of the many miracles contained in the Word of God. We could continue to cite many more, yet John said it well when he said the world could not even contain the books necessary just to record the miracles of Jesus (John 21:25).
Despite the knowledge that many believers have regarding the miracles contained within the pages of Scripture, it appears that many of the miracles are only known factually. Unfortunately, many fail to apply the realities of Scripture to their own situations, leading individuals to worry and give up in despair.
Within the context of God bringing Judah through the captivity in Babylon and restoring the nation to their homeland, the word of God came to Jeremiah as he was confined under the king’s guard and said, “Behold I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?” (Jer. 32:27).
Theologically, most believers know that the answer to that question is no. However, I would argue that practically our lack of faith suggests that we do not truly believe the truths of that verse to the degree that we claim.
A person’s confidence in God reflects his personal view of God. For example, a person who has little confidence in God has a very small view of God. A person who has great confidence in God has a large view of God.
Incidentally, the greatness and grandeur of God are not contingent upon my view of God; however, the degree of peace I will experience is directly connected to my view of God.
A person who views God through the lens of his circumstances will quickly discover his circumstances are too great. On the other hand, a person who views his circumstances through the lens of the greatness of God will experience a peace that defies all explanation and understanding.
God asked Jeremiah, “Is there anything too hard for me?” How would you answer that question? The question is not if God can do; the better question is, do I trust Him enough to be able to if it is His will?
I challenge you to make God big in your own life…after all, He can!
Spelling/punctuation notes:
Changed “improbably military victories” to “improbable military victories.”
Changed “book necessary” to “books necessary.”
Added punctuation/spacing for readability.
