The interment will be at Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery.

Hughes worked to defend the sanctity of human life for over 40 years and was for decades an acknowledged leader of the pro-life, pro-family movement in Canada. He was the fond husband of Virginia, father of six children, and grandfather of six.

In addition to serving for many years as the president of Campaign Life Coalition, Hughes was for a time the vice-president of International Right to Life. He founded The Interim Newspaper and, with Gwen Landolt, REAL Women of Canada.

Hughes was also an enthusiastic supporter of LifeSiteNews from its late-1990s beginnings in Campaign Life’s Shuter Street offices to the day of his death. He frequently attended LifeSite events, including annual general meetings and anniversary galas. Thus, generations of pro-life witnesses knew Jim and appreciated his encyclopedic knowledge of the history of the movement in Canada, as well as his kindness and sense of humor.
