Leftist veterans’ group sues Trump admin over VA abortion ban – LifeSite

(LifeSiteNews) — Minority Veterans of America (MVA) has sued the Trump administration for revoking a policy allowing Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals to commit taxpayer-funded abortions.

The leftist veterans’ group claimed in its lawsuit that the Department of Veterans Affairs violated the Administrative Procedures Act by canceling a Biden-era innovation that allowed the VA to abort the babies of pregnant veterans and their beneficiaries.

The VA did not commit abortions until the Biden administration authorized the lethal practice in 2022 following the overturn of Roe v. Wade, despite federal law’s ban on taxpayer funding of abortion. At the time, the VA offered abortions in cases of rape or incest, as well as when the “life or health” of the pregnant woman was purportedly endangered, contradicting the sanctity of life and the admission of abortionists that there is no such thing as a “medically necessary” abortion.

In December 2025, the Department of Justice reversed the Biden administration’s decision. Deputy Assistant Attorney General Josh Craddock said that federal law “unambiguously commands that VA may not provide abortions when furnishing medical care under 38 U.S.C. § 1710 or any other provision in chapter 17 of Title 38.”

MVA’s lawsuit called the reinstatement of a ban on VA abortions a “betrayal,” complaining that the “VA failed to provide any explanation — let alone a reasoned explanation — for disregarding its previous factual findings addressing veterans’ need for [so-called] abortion care, and … failed to address significant comments.”

The lawsuit’s reference to abortion as “care” is a radical misnomer considering that abortion kills unborn human beings.

MVA cites the case of a veteran who says her unintended pregnancy is “already exacerbating existing health conditions,” including a “flare-up of debilitating chronic pain.”

“VA’s ban on abortion … and counseling is a direct threat to my health and my ability to parent my existing children and a betrayal of the sacrifices I have made for my country,” the woman said, pushing for the murder of her unborn child, according to The Hill.

The lawsuit maintains that veterans, “like all people,” should be able to obtain taxpayer-funded abortions “in all circumstances,” effectively arguing that a pregnant veteran should be able to kill her unborn baby for any reason whatsoever.
