In our devotions this month about notable mothers in the Bible, take note that these women are recognized for their profound faith, bravery, and pivotal roles in Biblical history, often through extreme adversity or while waiting on miracles.
First, we see Eve, who is the mother of all living. Then we see Sarah, the mother of Isaac; Hannah, the mother of Samuel; Jochebed, the mother of Moses; and last and most importantly, Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Eve is the mother of all living. She was the first woman and mother, navigating the fall of humanity and raising children in a broken world.
Sarah was the mother of Isaac. She was the wife of Abraham, who became the father of nations through a miracle in her old age. She was past the flower of her age to bear children, yet she received strength to conceive seed and gave birth to Isaac, and through him came the twelve patriarchs.
Hannah was the mother of Samuel. She poured out her soul to God in prayer during infertility and dedicated her son Samuel to God’s service.
Jochebed was the mother of Moses, who demonstrated immense bravery by hiding her son from Pharaoh to save his life.
Also, Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau, and Leah, the mother of several tribes and wife of Jacob, played major roles in the foundational family of Israel. Leah gave birth to six sons.
Then there is Naomi.
And most importantly, Mary, who is the mother of Jesus Christ our Lord. She is the most prominent mother chosen to bear the Savior, demonstrating deep faith and acceptance of God’s will.
All these mothers were used by God to play prominent roles in Biblical history throughout the ages of time.
I challenge each woman who is a mother, or who will someday be a mother, to dedicate her life to God’s will, dare to be in a personal relationship with Christ, and set herself apart from the rest of the world. Raise your children according to the Word of God and in prayer, seeking the will of God for the children you are given.
We never know because God has an important role for every child that is born.
Ladies, I beseech you all to live godly in Christ Jesus and always seek the Lord in every circumstance of life.
My mother took my sisters and me to church every Sunday and planted the good seed of the Word of God in our hearts. At the age of 29 years old, I received Christ as my personal Savior.
Therefore, I now have the privilege of writing articles that encourage others and hopefully make a difference in the lives of others. God is using my past struggles so that I may be used to save many people alive with the Gospel of Christ.
I pray that every mother will be exhorted to walk by grace through faith, especially for your children.
Happy Mother’s Day!
